Oma’s Place exists to provide adolescents, youth, and their families, in the Greater Houston area and surrounding areas, with a safe and fun environment. Oma’s Place is committed to the needs of our adolescents and youth even in times of suffering, persecution, sickness or hardship regardless of ethnicity or cultural backgrounds.
Our students gain a sense of purpose, improve their confidence, develop academically, improve their social skills.
Our program also monitors the emotional and mental health of all program participants and is lead by a team of professional counselors.
Program Opportunities
Academic Support
Our teachers are qualified professionals that will work one-on-one with your child to help them improve in the areas of numeracy and literacy. This means that your child will work to improve his/her reading, math, and comprehension skills.
We also offer GED support for those pursuing alternative education pathways. Helping GED student pass their exam in included in this offering.
Leadership Development
Our goal is to nurture emerging leaders to succeed in business, philanthropy, science, culture and government. We facilitate sessions with staff counselors, host events with speakers from the community, facilitate field trips, and offer other culturally enriching opportunities.
Positive Youth Development
Our goal is to promote positive outcomes for adolescents and youth by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths.
Our vision for each student is to develop into a productive member of society. We also strive to use education as a platform that will eventually prevent negative interactions with law enforcement due to criminal activity.
Out-of-School Programming
We offer after-school programs, out-of-school programs, and other opportunities that help student outside of the normal school hours.
Our goal is to eventually begin working with government entities to improve our students’ numeracy and literacy skills. Specifically, we offer tutoring, test preparation, homework assistance, educational and academic test preparation for standardized tests, and career exploration.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
We offer opportunities for participants struggling with anxiety and/or behavioral disorders that prohibit their ability to be successful in the community, home, and school. We also work to assist students dealing with emotional issues related to the COVID pandemic.
Health & Wellness
Our priority to ensure that our adolescents and youth are healthy and well. Health-related goals include reducing the risk of long-term inpatient treatment, minimizing the use of emergency services, and linking adolescents, youth, and families to community-based services and support systems.
Life Skills Development
Tasks such as light cooking, routine cleaning, laundry, and day planning are part of our program. These basic skills foster discipline and a good work ethic in our program participants.
Workforce Development
We support youth in career-building skills for a better future. We offer vocational and technical training opportunities that adolescents and youth can leverage in their chosen professions later in life.
